Missing Homework Procedure
In order to support your student with homework completion, Team Summit will be sending home pink slips when students have missing assignments. These forms are to hold your student accountable for not completing homework on time and to allow us to open up lines of communication with you. When an assignment is missed the following procedure will go into effect:
1. Teachers will give a pink slip when a student does not complete an assigned work.
2. Student will take the pink slip home that night.
3. Student will fill out the pink slip.
4. Student and parent will review the pink slip and sign it at the bottom.
5. Student will return the pink slip to the assigning teacher by the following day.
6. When student does not return a completed pink slip the day it is due, the teacher will assign lunch detention.
7. Student and teacher will call home during lunch detention to alert parents to the missing work and assignment makeup will be arranged.
8. Team Summit will contact parents to set up a conference if three pink slips are earned in any one class within a six week period.

Mr. Mattson - LA/SS
LASS 8 - We have finished reading Blood on the River and are finishing up our study of life in the English colonies. We will be using this week to write our final assignment for Blood on the River, which is a literature based expository essay.
Pre-AP - We have just finished our author study of Edgar Allen Poe and this week we will be finishing up our study of life in the English colonies. We will be using this week to write an illustrate journal describing the life in colonial America. Both Classes - During the month of November, students will be reading fantasy novels as part of our month long genre study. Next week we will begin studying the American Revolution, looking at why the colonies felt that they had no choice but to revolt against England. We will tie this two units together by asking: "What makes a hero? Who are hero's of the American Revolution?" Class resources are available at: www.mrmattson.weebly.com. Ms. Hackworth - LA/SS
LA/SS - As chapter 5 comes to a close, we will be moving into the Declaration of Independence. We will be analyzing this document in order to rephrase it into simplified terms.
Students have chosen their Fantasy book. These books are quite lengthy, and students should be reading at home often. Book assignments will be due every Monday. We are also studying the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Students have been working hard to simplify these stories as well. As this unit comes to a close, students will be creating a brochure, poster, or short story to display what they have learned. Mrs. Buckley - MathAlgebra - This week we started working with inequalities. Students will see that solving inequalities is very similar to solving an equation except when they multiply or divide by a negative number. We will be taking our quiz on section 3-1 through 3-4 on Monday November 7th. After this quiz we only have two more sections to cover plus the chapter review before our Chapter 3 Test.
Math 8 - We finished our first phase in Exploring the Unknown textbook and we started the second phase this week. We are working with the lab gear again so that students have a solid understanding of negative numbers before we move to just paper and pencil. We have also done a lot of work with our Mt. Math problems this past week. Students learned the difference between factors, multiples, prime numbers, composite numbers, and how to create a factor tree. |
